A team of council workers were left clearing bags of rubbish when Irish travellers finally left a Spalding car park overnight.
John Binney was one of four workers sent by South Holland District Council to clear Victoria Street car park, which had been closed since Friday after the travellers arrived.
He said: “Four of us have been here since 6am. The car park was covered with litter.
“We’ve already gathered four heaps of rubbish.”
The first convoy of at least 20 caravans and horse boxes left the car park yesterday afternoon, with plans to visit the Appleby Horse Fair in Cumbria which starts on Thursday.
