Over 40 hours of sound recorded in some of the ‘quiet’ villages in South Holland is to be broadcast on Tulip Radio, writes the station’s Jan Whitbourn.

Artist Rebecca Lee was commissioned by Transported to explore sound in a project called Outside Broadcast in Sutton St James, Holbeach St Johns, Moulton Chapel, Quadring and Bicker. She spoke to over 400 people who told stories about their life in the local area and recorded sounds from a variety of groups.

Rebecca told Tulip Radio she found these ‘quiet’ villages were full of noise. She said: “People seem to really like the idea of collecting sounds, and importantly, local stories told by local voices. I am pleased I’ll be able to leave the recordings with the villages so they have a record for the future.”

Rebecca’s audio documentaries will air on Tulip Radio every Tuesday between noon-1pm on Matthew Baker’s Lunchtime Show: Quadring on December 2, Moulton Chapel on December 9, Moulton Seas End on December 16, Bicker on December 23, and Sutton St James on December 30.
