Work has started on a £120,000 energy project to install solar panels at eight Lincolnshire Co-op stores, including one in Long Sutton.
More than 320 photovoltaic panels – around 40 on each store –will be fitted to the roofs of stores around the area.
The work is due to be completed by the end of the year.
When all eight sites are complete they are expected to produce in excess of 71,000 kWh of energy a year – enough to power 258 fridge freezers for a year.
Lincolnshire Co-op’s store development manager Matthew Wilkinson said: “Every bit of green energy we produce helps the environment and we’re excited to be following on from our solar panel trial in Lincoln with eight more sites.”
