Teenagers from South Holland and across Lincolnshire have helped raise a staggering £114,000 for charities as part of their National Citizen Service (NCS) placements.

The Government-led scheme saw youngsters give up nearly 114,000 hours to helping their communities through social action projects ranging from family fun days and cake sales to rejuvenating allotments, pre-schools and care homes.

Young people aged 16 and 17 from across Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland signed up for a combined 113,970 hours to volunteering during a four-week programme.

It included a visit to an outdoor adventure centre, residential course at a university where NCS young people worked with businesses to improve their employability skills and a two-week social action project for teens to serve their communities.
