Fun, frivolous and sexy was on the agenda at the latest meeting of Sutton Bridge Womens’ Institute on Wednesday night.
Members of the Bridge Buns and Roses indulged themselves with some classic showgirl glitz and glamour to take lessons in the art of the ultimate tease – Burlesque dancing.
Around 40 members and friends turned up for the workshop, which was led by Sleaford-based studio Go Dance.
President Jane Wilkinson said everyone really got into the spirit of the evening – with many ladies now keen to sign up for regular lessons.
“It was a great bit of fun,” she said afterwards. “Lots of people dressed up for the night and everyone got into the spirit and had a go at the moves.
“We’ve been meeting for almost a year now and this was one of the first ideas we had. We are a traditional WI group with a modern twist and saw some of the London groups were doing stuff like this, so thought we’d give it a go too.”
Each month the group invites a different speaker to attend and next month marks its first anniversary, which will be celebrated with a party.
Jane came up with the idea of reforming the town’s WI as a way of bringing people together. The new group enjoys all the traditional WI values, while making their activities and entertainments more relevant to younger generations.
nBridge Buns and Roses meet every third Wednesday at the Curlew Centre, Sutton Bridge, from 7.30pm.
Taster sessions priced £3.50 are available. Annual membership is £36, to cover the cost of speakers and entertainments.
Women aged 18 and over are welcome. For more information call Jane Wilkinson on 07506 440906 or visit the group’s Facebook page
