ONE of the Crufts 2012 winners – Buster, a spaniel who undertook tours of Afghanistan, Iraq and Bosnia as a bomb seeker – has helped the Royal British Legion raise more than £6,500 at Springfields Outlet Shopping, Spalding.

Buster secured the title of “man’s best friend” at Crufts, and although now retired saved lives by sniffing out suicide bombers wearing explosive vests.

The Royal British Legion was Springfields’ charity of the year for 2011/12, and Buster spent time helping raise much needed funds.

Many retailers had collection boxes at their tills, the Springfields Information Point sold branded merchandise and the Legion fielded several tombola stalls.

Peter Lyon, area Poppy Appeal organiser, said: “Our time as Charity of the Year at Springfields went brilliantly. We are extremely grateful to the centre for giving us so much flexibility and freedom to fundraise in ways that suit us best. They really bent over backwards to help us.

“We are also very grateful to all the visitors for digging deep and supporting the Legion. People from lots of different backgrounds and all ages were so pleased to be supporting us.

“All the money raised goes towards the Poppy Appeal.”
