Professor Nomis’s great grandaughter Veronica Liquorish is not the only person who has been curious about the entertainer’s life.
In 2009 Spalding pensioner Audrey Smith appealed for information because she had been given a copy of a book – A Cross of Spalding – which refers to his life story. Audrey also had a poster showing Professor Nomis’s billing for an entertainment at the Masonic Hall,
The appeal resulted in a number of people getting in touch with these newspapers to share their memories of the acclaimed performer.
In fact at that time Bill Shearer, Simon Cross’s grandson, told us that in addition to his performing arts, he was also a tailor, sign-writer and bookies runner!
