SCHOOLCHILDREN started the countdown to the London 2012 Olympics with a series of events to mark 500 days until the games begins.

Our photographer was on hand to catch up with several of our schools who ran themed events – including at Weston Hills Primary School and Spalding Parish Day school, who welcomed Olympic mascots Wenlock and Mandeville as part of their first visit to Lincolnshire.

Students at Ayscoughfee Hall and St Bartholomews schools took part in 2012-metre walks around the school grounds and Pinchbeck East Primary School children donned their sports gear for an active celebration.

Wenlock and Mandeville also stopped by at St John’s Primary Shcool in Spalding and Deeping St James Primary School.
