Local builder Ray Flett has been nominated by the NHBC for a national safety award as site manager on a Kier Homes development at Bourne.

The Rushes, in Elsea Park, Bourne, has been nominated in the Best Large Site Category.

Ray is one of four Kier Homes’ site managers who have been commended in the 2012 National House-Building Council (NHBC) Health & Safety Awards and will now go forward to the final stages of judging to find a national winner.

The NHBC Health and Safety Awards were launched in 2009 as the only health and safety awards designed solely to recognise the work of the UK’s house builders. The scheme rewards well managed sites and companies that can demonstrate effective health and safety planning and execution, engaged workforces and the best health and safety management systems.

Nominated sites have each been visited three times by an independent judging panel and marked against an extensive list of health and safety criteria.

Kier Homes construction director Mark Smith is delighted that the work of the whole company can be seen reflected in the success of the four commended site managers:

He said: “I am really pleased with our success in the NHBC awards. This industry recognition epitomises the commitment, not only of our commended site managers, but of everyone at Kier Homes, to providing a safe working environment on each of our developments.”

Simon Mantle, group health and safety policy manager at NHBC said:“Now in its third year, our awards programme continues to champion outstanding practice in health and safety management and is the only awards programme of its kind designed solely for house builders of all sizes in the UK.”
