Deeping St James couple Katarzyna and Mark Chiva had a late but very special delivery on New Year’s Day.

Baby Rufus was meant to come into this world on December 27, but decided instead to make his grand entrance on the first day of 2013.

Rufus was born in the birthing pool at Peterborough City Hospital at 8.14am and tipped the scales at 9lbs 2ozs.

Katarzyna (34) said: “He was a little bit late. He was waiting for the new year.”

Katarzyna and Mark have two girls, Ella (7) and Freya (4), and are delighted to have a baby boy to add to their family.

The proud mum works for Peterborough City Council and manages St George’s hydrotherapy pool.

Mark (42) is an independent financial adviser.

The couple were joking that it was the new year’s fireworks that finally started Katarzyna’s labour.

Mark said Rufus will really enjoy the turn of the year when he’s older.

He said: “He will have double the excuse to party. He is a great addition to our family. It was quite nice that he was born just after Christmas when things have calmed down.”
