FIVE people have a blood pressure checking day in Spalding to thank for helping to save their lives.

The Rotary Club of South Holland held its annual Know Your Blood Pressure day as part of a national stroke awareness event.

Rotary chairman Clive Benson said he was very pleased with the public response, especially as NHS statistics show someone in the UK has a stroke every five minutes.

Around 125 people were tested by the experienced team in Shooters Bar in the Market Place.

As a result, five people were told they should see their doctor urgently and 22 were advised they had raised blood pressure and should have it checked again within four weeks.
