Rose garden unveiled for Sandy Hook

Spalding Grammar School students and staff have joined hearts with a American community still scarred by a tragedy in which 26 people, 20 of them children, lost their lives.

A memorial garden for the victims of a mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, last December, was dedicated on Friday by chairman of governors and Vicar of St Mary and St Nicolas Church, Spalding, Rev John Bennett.

The rose garden was the idea of students who were helped by a donation of bushes from Style Roses, Holbeach.

Sixth form student Alistair Crisp (17), said: “It’s really important to have the garden here as an everlasting memorial to the victims, to show how special life is and how easily it can be taken away, Photo (NIKKI GRIFFIN): SG100513-112NG.
