player Left in agony for 90 minutes

Gavin Harrison (32) was called off the first team’s bench for Saturday’s away match when, just seven minutes into the second half, he was stopped five metres from the try line and went down sustaining a broken ankle.

The delay experienced fell short of the high standard our patients should expect and we are sorry about that

East Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman

Coach Ben Williams is fuming about how long it took for the ambulance to arrive. He said: “The game continued on another pitch and we covered Gav up with coats.

“When the ambulance didn’t arrive we called again and were told it wasn’t an emergency and we should get him to hospital by car. But when we came to move him we saw damaged bones poking out and called again. It was a good 40 minutes more before the paramedics arrived and they said it was the worst break they had ever seen.”

The paramedics took him to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, where he was operated on and the ankle was plated and pinned.
