Ring your bells for the Olympics

BELLRINGERS at St Mary and St Nicolas Church in Spalding are among those considering taking part in the UK’s biggest ever ringing extravaganza to mark the start of the Olympics.

And you can be part of it too by ringing handbells, door bells and bike bells.

Bells are to be rung “as quickly and loudly as possible” for three minutes starting at 8.12am on Friday, July 27.

The idea, called “All the Bells”, has come from Turner prizewinning artist and musician Martin Creed.

Anyone who wants to get involved, groups or individuals, can register at www.allthebells.com

The bells “blast” will be broadcast live on the BBC to a potential live audience of ten million on TV, radio and online.
