Homes and businesses in South Holland had a lucky escape from serious flooding after the east coast experienced its worst tidal surge in 60 years.

Fallen trees, power cables and some flooding led to road closures across the area, and the high winds caused a double-decker bus to topple over in Crowland.

Spalding couple Tracey Hughes and Simon Lamb were awarded £1.2 million in compensation after a catalogue of hospital errors. Tracey was taken to Boston’s Pilgrim Hospital with a broken leg following a fall in 2006, but the mistakes that followed left her husband jobless and her family homeless. They won the payout from United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust in December following a seven-year battle for compensation.
