Foodbanks and other charities in South Holland can help even more needy people with the help of Britain’s biggest supermarket chain.

Tesco has teamed up with anti-food waste charity FareShare to launch Community Food Connection, a programme that will see more than 9,000 tonnes of unsold food used to feed families.

All charities like Agapecare Foodbank Spalding and Holbeach Community Larder have to do is to register for the Community Food Connection by visiting www.fareshare.org.uk/fareshare-foodcloud

Rifka Chakkalakal, Tesco’s Community Food Connection programmes manager, said: “No food that can be eaten should go to waste, which is why we are really excited to start working on this initiative to ensure that any unsold food we have is made use of.

“We are looking forward to forging strong links with local charities and community groups in South Holland, Sutterton and the Deepings in order to use this initiative to support their efforts in helping vulnerable people in our community.”

Jane Francis of Holbeach Community Larder said: “Our local Tesco Superstore is already incredibly generous in donating food to us every week that would otherwise go to waste.”
