Respected former Spalding trader Ken Watkin has died aged 86 while staying with his daughters, Sharon and Carla, in Cyprus.
Ken didn’t retire from his shop until he was 84, having spent the previous 47 years in business in the town, including his time working at Watkin and Overton in New Road and finally at K Watkin Carpets and Curtains in Red Lion Street.
Just before he retired, sprightly Ken was still nipping up step ladders to measure up or to fit blinds.
He told us at the time: “I don’t want to give it up, but I will be 85 at Christmas.
“I have always enjoyed it.”
• Ken’s funeral service will take place in Cyprus.
