It was a “beautiful evening” for veteran Harold Payne and his annual thanksgiving and cheque presentation party in Holbeach.
The party at the toown’s Holbeach Community Centre was in honour of all past sponsors of Mr Payne and his volunteers in their vast amount of work for military charities and organisations.
Among the entertainment at the party were The Dreambelles, Lena Jane and Kirton Brass Band whose members played songs from the 1930s and 40s.
Mr Payne said: “You’ve got to appreciate what people do for you in life and remember what those lads went through in the (Second World) War.
“It was also a night to remember all the young American and British soldiers who never returned from the War.”
Special guest John Hayes, MP for South Holland and Deepings, presented cheques of £10,000 to the Royal Anglian Regiment and £1,000 to personnel from RAF Marham.
There were also donations of £1,000 from Barclays Bank and Chosen Charity Shop, Holbeach, whose volunteers and trustees gave £3,000.
