Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue and Lincolnshire Trading Standards are encouraging residents to register their household appliances on a new website so they are the first to know if repairs are needed or a product is recalled.
Only a third of people register all of their appliances with a manufacturer, leaving many owners untraceable if a product needs to be recalled or repaired.
To combat this, the Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Electrical Appliances has launched a new website (www.registermyappliance.org.uk)
Karl Turrill, of Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, said: ““Registering your appliances may seem like an onerous task but you are making your home a safer place. Household appliances can cause fires when they are not correctly maintained or used.”
Lisa Foster, of Lincolnshire Trading Standards, said: “Domestic appliances have never been safer but sometimes faults are discovered and manufacturers need to let people know. By signing up you are making sure you won’t be left in the dark if something is wrong.”
