EVEN music tutor Nigel Portass was surprised at how well his pupils did at their concert at the Anglia Motel at Fleet on Saturday.

Nigel, who runs the music shop Portass & Carter in Sutton Bridge, organises regular concerts to give his pupils a chance to perform in public but says the latest was arranged at short notice.

Despite that, musicians aged between eight and 76 played “really, really well” and an audience of family and friends helped raise £600 for the Children’s Liver Disease Charity, which has benefited from the concerts since Nigel’s grandson suffered from liver disease.

The room at the motel was given for free in exchange for a donation to the Veterans’ Association.
