A FOOTBRIDGE area in Spalding which has been plagued with litter problems and rough sleepers could soon be cleaned up.

The bridge, which connects Green Lane and St John’s Road, has been the subject of joint working between a number of local organisations after being named among the priorities of the Spalding West Neighbourhood Policing Panel.

Police say it could soon be cleaned up by Community Payback workers.

One reader said she was too frightened to cross the bridge in the dark. She said: “It can be very intimidating when using the bridge as quite often I have to wait for groups hanging around or sitting on the steps of the bridge to part before I can get over it.”

Beat manager PC Craig Lockton said: “We have identified the owner of the land. There are no plans to develop the land.

“This matter is now with the South Holland District Council anti-social behaviour team with a view to clean the site through the Community Payback scheme.

“The British Transport Police will enforce any offences.”
