The dead man has been named locally as Alan Thorne (67), who is believed to leave family including his wife, Angela.

Police say he died in a fire in the back garden.

His death is being treated as unexplained and police are jointly investigating with Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue.

The coroner has been informed.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said one fire appliance attended from Donington, but no action was required at the scene by firefighters.

Neighbours said police sealed off the house while investigating officers examined the scene.

One neighbour said no-one was allowed in – not even the family.

Another neighbour said he saw the emergency services at the house but didn’t find out until later that Mr Thorne had died.

He said he stayed indoors while the emergency services were there because he didn’t want to interrupt their work.

It is understood Mr and Mrs Thorne had lived at the house for a number of years.

A woman who answered the door at the house yesterday said she did not wish to comment.

l The coroner’s service will not be naming the man who died in the fire until he has been formally identified.
