Police are recruiting ‘Teds’

South Holland’s knitters are asked to play a part in comforting young road crash victims by making teddy bears and monkeys for police to give out.

“Assistance bears” are also handed out by junior PCSOs in playgrounds in Spalding, Holbeach and the Suttons to fellow pupils who feel poorly or sad – or as a reward for good work.

Lincolnshire Police community safety officer Gill Finn said bears and monkeys used to be supplied by the charity, Angel Bears, which has now folded, and she’s putting out a heartfelt plea to those who knit or crochet to fill the gap by supplying them free.

She said: “I will sign up everybody who is willing to knit the bears for us.”

• Patterns are on the police website at www.lincs.police.uk and completed bears can be sent to Gill Finn, community safety officer, Lincolnshire Police Headquarters, Nettleham, Lincoln LN2 2LT, or handed to your nearest police station marked for Mrs Finn’s attention.
