News from the South Holland Centre
If you’re wondering what to do with the kids now that schools have broken up, come and have a chat with us at the South Holland Centre where we are poised to help with tourist information and ticket enquiries.
We stock many local and regional tourism brochures which you can take away or ask our friendly team on the front desk who will be happy to assist you with a few ideas to wile away an afternoon.
Not least here on our very doorstep of course! As well as over ninety summer film screenings – which we launched here last week – the Centre has a packed summer programme of activities for children of all ages:
Act II Theatre Company is running two drama days for children aged four to seven. Starting with ‘To Infinity and Beyond’ on Thursday, July 31, this outer space-themed day mixes a fun storyline with a dose of imagination to send the little astronauts on a rocket to the stars and across the galaxy.
A second day on Friday, August 29 is based on the enduring classic tale, ‘The Three Little Pigs’. Both activities run from 10am to 3pm and cost £17, or £32 for two siblings.
For older children aged seven to 13, there’s an action-packed week of drama and games based on one of Roald Dahl’s best-loved stories,’ Fantastic Mr Fox’ running from Monday to Friday, August 11 to 15. The cost is £65, or £115 for two siblings. All of the youth theatre and drama days culminate in a performance to family and friends.
Also back for the summer is the Zest Summer Challenge where 11 to 25s have just four days to produce a brand-new show ready for a live audience to watch.
That’s four days to write it, rehearse it, produce and perform it! There is now limited availability for this free activity which runs from Monday to Thursday, August 18 to 21. Hurry if you want to book a remaining place.
Bedroom musicians aged 12 to 18 now have the chance to play guitar, drums or any instrument of their own as part of a band at Rock School.
Whether they’re into grunge, heavy metal, ballads or pop, these three days of working under the guidance of soundLINCS professionals aims to nurture playing style and confidence – but most of all, to make sure everyone has a rockin’ good time.
Rock School returns by popular demand from Monday to Thursday, August 4 to 7 (not Wednesday) and costs £60.
Meanwhile, the 2014 Summer Fun brochure is out and details countless child and family-friendly activities taking place throughout the district this summer.
It’s produced by South Holland District Council’s community development team, and as well as being distributed widely through schools, is available for pick-up at various locations around the district, including Ayscoughfee Museum and the South Holland Centre.
