A petition has been handed in to South Holland District Council in opposition to the orange shutters on the front of a shop in Spalding.

Nearly 200 signatures were collected at Balls Newagents in Hawthorn Bank objecting to the shutters at Fantasia in Bourne Road.

It’s not so much the colour we are opposed to but the fact the shutters were put up without planning permission

Coun Angela Newton, ward councillor, said: “I handed the petition in at the full council meeting on behalf of the residents. The shutters were put up without planning permission and the residents are not happy. The orange colour is totally not in keeping with the rest of the area.”

The petition was started by a member of staff at Balls Newsagents, Shelly Howells.

She said: “It’s not so much the colour we are opposed to but the fact the shutters were put up without planning permission. If we had tried to do that we would have been in big trouble.”

A spokesman for SHDC said the petition has been included as an objection to the planning application. It does not automatically follow that the application will be reported to the planning committee. It may first be referred to the chairman’s panel.
