THEY enjoy a tasty diet of mice, rats and day-old chicks and are easy to look after, so long as they are fed and cleaned out regularly – we’re talking about the 85 birds at Baytree Garden Centre’s Owl Centre at Weston.

The centre has had a new lease of life since new manager Denise Bignell arrived – she keeps owls at home and is studying for a Bird of Prey Diploma. Denise and the other two members of her team, Rob Barker and Richard Willit, have increased the total number of owls as well as those classed as “tame”.

The centre is open seven days a week with over 30 species of owls, an indoor flying arena and 18 owls that are happy to be stroked and handled.
