“Please see my picture of a Little Owl feeding a female Ghost moth to its young,” says Mark Joy of Gosberton.
“It was taken in a local farmer friend’s shed. These Little Owls have used the nest box for several years now. As the box is 13 feet from the ground I had to build my scaffolding with my hide on top and waited many nights in July between 9.45 p.m. and 3 a.m. to get pictures of and watch the owls (using a lamp with a red filter so that the owls did not notice any light). For the first 90 minutes of each night they would always bring in moths to the young and after then always earthworms (some as long as the adult owls). Only once did they bring in a shrew.”
