Having lived alongside the Coronation Channel for nearly 30 years I was horrified when walking across the Matmore Gate bridge in Spalding at the state of the reeds and weeds blocking the flow of water.
The last time this was dredged was some 25 years ago. The reeds must stick out over 15 metres into the water on both banks and there is even weed growing in the middle of the channel .
We all saw on TV what happened in Somerset last winter due to lack of dredging and heavy rainfall – let’s hope it doesn’t happen here.
Can the Environment Agency get to work as soon as possible?
