The latest news from our girl about town

A young cyclist was pedalling along High Street in Spalding in the dark with no lights on the other evening. ‘Get some lights mate,’ Angel advised in her usual lady-like fashion. He didn’t hear. He was wearing headphones.

* Angel has been touched by the kindness of others this week. First she heard of a lady who has taken a Christmas hamper to a hard-up Lithuanian family. Then she was made aware of a family offering up a spare place at their Christmas table to someone who would otherwise be on their own. Couple this with the success of our Christmas day meal for the elderly and the annual Foodbank Appeal and you see that there are some pretty decent people living among us.

* Reader David Gordon overheard a lovely snippet at the church door during the Holbeach Christmas Fayre.

A six-year-old girl clutching her daddy’s hand and the sweety she received from Santa in his grotto said: “He’s not the real Santa Claus – I know that as he’s not as fat as he is in my book!”

* Talking of those giving gifts, Angel and ‘im indoors went Christmas shopping at the big centre in Milton Keynes last week and came back laden with gifts. But they couldn’t find the watch or the handbag or several stocking fillers they were searching for... but found them all at Springfields when they stopped there on the way home.

* East Elloe Lions Club might be getting more Christmas cards than usual after helping organisers of Holbeach St Nicholas Christmas Fayre out of a hole. There was a risk that the event could end up without a Santa Claus, before the Lions filled in when one of its members sat in the grotto for a day.
