Lola the teacup chihuahua is back home again after a weekend ordeal involving an opportunist thief and a desperate online doghunt.

The two-year-old family pet owned by mum-of-two Coral Monaghan (25), formerly of West Pinchbeck, was snatched from her Peterborough home on Friday.

But after a frantic campaign by Coral where ‘Find Lola’ posters were put up in shop windows and leaflets posted through letterboxes, the dog who weighs just one-and-a-half pounds was reunited with her emotional owner on Sunday.

Coral said: “I’ve had Lola since she was eight weeks old and I’m so happy that she’s back home.

“Lola went missing at about 6pm on Friday when someone left the front door of our house open and someone walked past, saw the door open and grabbed her.

“I was in a mad panic when I was told and my boss had to take me home from work because Lola is so special to me and my two children.”

Coral found support from a relative who set a up a ‘Find Lola’ page on social media website Facebook which was estimated to have had at least 100,000 shares, making it the most trended topic in the UK on Saturday.

“My neighbour heard that a dog had been sold on and when I said that I’d do anything to get Lola back, the buyer ended up giving Lola back to us.”

Coral has taken extra security measures to ensure Lola doesn’t go missing again, fitting her with a dog tracking collar.

“I got so much support from people and Lola has now been called the most famous dog in Cambridgeshire,” Coral said.
