WISE owls knew exactly where to head to for a good day out on Sunday – the open day at the Exotic Pet Refuge at Deeping St James.

More than 500 people went along to the popular open day to meet the refuge’s many animals, although Diago the llama was safely locked away as he is in bad books, having injured refuge owner Pam Mansfield – for the second time.

“He loves me, that’s the trouble,” said Pam, still sore after being knocked over by Diago, who promptly sat on her. “He did the same thing about three years ago and broke one of my ribs. He just wants to be with me.”

Pam says the day was a huge success, making £4,300 towards costs. The next one is on Sunday, June 17 (10am to 5pm).
