A FORMER Olympian has returned to his home town of Holbeach to work with rising stars of tomorrow.

Geoff Capes has moved his Lincolnshire Throws Academy to the town youth centre and is ready to build on the legacy of this summer’s Games by inspiring a new generation.

The launch attracted 20 hopefuls from around the country, but Geoff believes there are rich pickings to be found in South Holland.

Shot putter Geoff, who represented his country over a span of 11 years, winning two Commonwealth Games and two Indoor European Championship titles, said: “I have always thought there has been a huge amount of talent in South Holland – pure stock from a farming region – but it takes one person to harness it.”

Youth Centre trustee Nick Worth said: “It’s great we have such a well-known former Olympian bringing the legacy of the Games to South Holland and making good use of the youth centre.”
