Young volunteers who work to make their village a better place can do their job more efficiently after a cash donation.

Flinders Founders is a voluntary group of 11 to 19 years olds who take part in various activities and organise a number of events to make Donington a better place for young people and families.

It’s secretary Margaret Wright recently applied to the Spalding and District Round Table’s Smile Fund for a donation of £437.45 to buy a range of office supplies.

Margaret said: “We needed the money for a number of things including a laminator, laminating pouches, printer and inks so we can be a more efficient and self-sufficient group to help us serve the community better.

“In the past we have relied heavily on Thomas Cowley High School for office support – printing, copying, laminating – but now the school has becomed an academy we are aiming to become more independent and manage our own affairs.

“This money will go a long way towards that aim and mean members of the group could learn to use the equipment themselves instead of having to rely on others to do it for them.”

Flinders Founders meets every month and organises events such as an Easter egg hunt, Party in the Park, Halloween and Christmas parties, flower festival and firework night.

The group has also built a teen park in Donington, which it maintains and develops.

The group’s chairman Alicia Wright received the donation from Tom Wright, of Spalding and District Round Table.

The Smile Fund is a £10,000 pot put up by Spalding and District Round Table to support people in the community.

It has teamed up with
the Spalding Guardian to allow readers to submit their application – and there are very few limits to who can apply.

Applicants can be individuals, a group, club, organisation or maybe even a school.

Projects can include anything from a new sports team kit to a day out.

To apply, send a letter including your name, address, beneficiary of the cash, amount requested and the reason for the request to Spalding Guardian Smile Fund, Priory House, The Crescent, Spalding, Lincs, PE11 1AB.
