Obituary: Sylvia was a church regular and helped at the flower festival

Mrs Sylvia Bland passed away on June 30 at the Pilgrim Hospital in Boston.

Sylvia was born in Hoffleet Stow, Bicker, in 1923 and attended schools in Wigtoft and Swineshead. She lived in Donington from 1950, when she married her husband Horace who passed away in 2003, before moving into Stone Haven Residential Home in Quadring last year.

Sylvia worked as a newsagents’ shop assistant for 24 years and also sold poppies for the Royal British Legion.

Sylvia was also a regular attendee at St Mary and the Holy Rood Church in Donington, where she often attended the Wednesday luncheon club, and also helped at the Donington flower festival.

A funeral was held on July 15 at St Mary & the Holy Rood church in Donington and was conducted by Rev Jenny Dumat.

Family mourners were Graham Bland (son), Cynthia Onions, Chris Bland (son), Katarina Bland (daughter in law), Kath Hall, Denis Hall, Joan Bell, Roger Bell and Eva Bell.
