Baytree Garden Centre was no place for the fainthearted when almost 50 different types of snake, lizard and other reptiles took centre stage on Saturday.

The second annual Baytree Reptile Show did attract about 700 people who got to see and hold some of the animals, including a Suntiger reticulated python, a silkback bearded dragon and horsefield tortoise.

There was also a raffle at the event which raised more than £200 for Derbyshire-based Reds Reptile Rescue.

Baytree pets and reptile manager Mick Birdsall said: “It was extremely well-attended and we’re already looking at expanding the event for next year.

“We felt there wasn’t anything for local reptile owners to go to and as we have the facilities for it, we felt we should put something on for them.

“This was the second year Baytree did it and it’s going to grow because we’ve had people who didn’t come this time asking us if they can come next year.”
