Novelty of women workers on Weston farm

These women were photographed as they worked at St Lambert’s Hall in Weston in 1916.

The female party was riddling potatoes on a farm owned by Mr George Caudwell.

A “score of women” – around 20 – were working in parties, some riddling the seed and others weighing and putting up potatoes for market.

The reporter noted the women seemed surprised that the “outside world” was interested in their work.
