War was raging overseas, but life continued as normal for many people at home.

Mr J W Day, of the Whaplode Drove Church Room Rifle Club, had succeeded in securing the cup and gold medal for the season that year.

The previous year the special silver medal had gone into his possession when he scored 1,408 points, or an average of 56⅓ each shoot.
