New 40mph speed signs will soon be up in Deeping St Nicholas in an attempt slow drivers down through the village.

Parish and district councillors are joining forces to provide two interactive speed signs that can be moved to different parts of the village, similar to those used in Gedney Hill and Deeping St James.

I’m getting a lot of grief from residents over the speed of traffic through the village

Coun Paul Barrett, Deeping St Nicholas Parish Council

During Monday’s meeting, Coun Paul Barrett said: “I’m getting a lot of grief from residents over the speed of traffic through the village and I propose that we should investigate getting two interactive signs for Deeping St Nicholas.

“It would make the community feel better and someone offers to man them, I think the majority of people will respond to it.

“You’ll never stop speeding but I think we have to be seen to be doing something about it.”

As far back as October 2000, villagers met with police to discuss the need for speed cameras along the A1175 Littleworth Drove which runs through Deeping St Nicholas.

Speaking at the time, before joining the parish council, Coun Louise McGuinness said: “Deeping St Nicholas is sandwiched between two bypasses so people forget they are entering a village and don’t reduce their speed.

“There’s an issue and when I wrote to people, I got an overwhelming response.”
