Readers have named the new housing company that promises to deliver quality homes across South Holland.

Welland Homes Ltd was chosen after two entries caught the judges eye – Welland Housing Company and Welland Housing.

We liked the Welland aspect as the river is such a key part of our district

The Free Press helped with a survey run by South Holland District Council by asking readers for suggestions.

After much conferring, the decision has been taken to use the ‘Welland’ name and call the company ‘Welland Homes Limited’.

The winning entrants – Tim Stoodley and Debbie Preston – each receive four tickets to see a film of their choice at the South Holland Centre in Spalding.

Tim, of Gosberton, said: “I’m delighted to have won. I chose the name because the River Welland goes hand in hand with South Holland.”

Debbie, of Spalding, added: “Having Welland in the name seemed like an obvious choice, but I never thought I would win.”

Coun Christine Lawton, portfolio holder for housing, said: “We would like to thank everyone who entered the competition, there were some very creative entries.

“We liked the Welland aspect as the river is such a key part of our district. We hope that in time the company will become the landlord of choice in South Holland.”

A £15.2 million project, the company was launched in March to increase the supply of new homes in the district and meet the demands and needs of a growing population.

Funded by a mixture of loans and money from the council’s reserves, it will see quality accommodation built across South Holland.

The first phase of the scheme will see 142 much-needed new homes built over the next two years. This will include 89 homes for rent, 40 affordable properties and 13 houses for sale.

These will be a mixture of sizes and designs based on market trends so that the company can compete within the market.
