A mystery benefactor paid £250 into Spalding United’s social club account following the latest in a series of break-ins.

A raid on the cellar was discovered on Monday and Tulips chairman Andy Gay says seven cases of beer were stolen along with four cases of soft drinks, including Coke, Fanta and J20.

Last week the Tulips were reeling from vandalism that saw wooden gates smashed and two burglaries where cash and drinks were stolen from the clubhouse and Andy was on the brink of quitting.

Speaking on Tuesday, Andy said: “Today I had somebody contact me and they restored my faith by putting £250 into the social club bank account, which is absolutely fantastic of them.

“It just goes to show that for all the idiots of there, there’s a lot of good, genuine people.”

A contractor has been fitting an alarm at the clubhouse that links to Spalding Police Station but the cellar window wasn’t connected up at the time of the break-in.
