WEDDING day nerves will be nothing to Nicola Grantham compared with the day she met husband-to-be Justin Gray.
She was shaking in her shoes on her first time attending a new Spalding slimming class.
Now 18 months later and both several stone lighter, the pair have named the day in January 2012.
And classmates are cheering them on to reach their target weights before they tie the knot.
Nicola said: “I was so nervous, romance was the last thing on my mind when I went along to the Slimming World class that my friend Maria Walmsley was setting up.
“I’d just got divorced and she encouraged me to go.
“Justin’s related to Maria and he’d been going to another class but had agreed to join hers and help her set up. He welcomed me as I went in.
“He’s very chatty – he’ll talk to anyone and has a lovely personality.”
Love grew between the pair as their waist-sizes shrank - but not in front of the rest of the Tuesday night group, and they still don’t sit together there.
They got closer as they chatted on Facebook and their first date, three months after they met, was a day trip to the Norfolk coast.
Now they take turns cooking healthy meals in the house they share at Surfleet.
Nicola, who works in the cafe at Hills of Spalding, has already slimmed from a size 18 to a 14 and plans to lose another 14lbs to look just right in her wedding dress.
Printer Justin is halfway to his target of dropping five stone by the Big Day.
He said: “We have the Slimming World cookbooks but we’ve just got back on track after New Year and getting engaged.
“It’s going to be a quiet immediate family only wedding, with a roast dinner to follow.”
