Pupils at Whaplode Primary School had their own taste of Rio ahead of the Olympics when they held an end of term sports day.

The school’s younger pupils took to the field in the morning and a large crowd of parents and family members cheered and encouraged them on.

After a picnic lunch, attended by many parents, the school’s older pupils donned their sports kits and impressed the crowd with their athletic skills.

At the end of the afternoon, points were counted up and the sports trophy was awarded to the winning team, Oak.

But all pupils demonstrated winning ways on the day by giving their best and by demonstrating some genuine sportsmanship towards their fellow competitors.

Headteacher Alison Flack said: “It was so good to watch our pupils show such a great attitude towards their competitive sports day.
