Sutton Bridge would “gain another 15ft of Memorial Park” if its boundaries are cleared of vegetation, debris and rubbish, according to parish council chairman John Grimwood.
The parish council agreed to find out whether the Community Payback Team, dubbed by Coun Grimwood as “the naughty boys”, could do the job and also to seek quotes from outside contractors.
Members also asked for an assessment of trees in the park to see if any low, overhanging branches need trimming back.
The council has authorised a formal risk assessment of the Memorial Park Pavilion at a cost of £100 plus VAT.
Sutton Bridge in Bloom is creating a community garden on the site.
Councillors last week agreed the volunteer group can use the land for at least five years, because that will make it easier for them to apply for cash grants towards the project.
Councillors also want to impose a 5mph speed limit on the driveway approaching The Curlew Centre, which sits on the edge of the park, and decided ‘discretionary’ signs could be put up in advance of an official limit.
Coun Grimwood said: “I think 5mph is a sensible speed. It’s walking speed, isn’t it?”
