Around 300 people joined firefighters at Kirton on Saturday to celebrate the village fire station’s 25th birthday.

The accent was on fun as well as fire and road safety.

Hoses were aimed at traffic cones – instead of fires – as youngsters tried their hands at knocking paper cups off the top.

Children also had a chance to sit in the cab of a fire engine and meet mascots Freddie and Filbert.

Firefighters had displays showing how easily fires start and provided safety tips and leaflets for visitors.

There was a road traffic collision demonstration as part of the 2fast2soon campaign from Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership.

Watch manager Eddie Affection said it wasn’t a fundraising day but visitors gave £100 for the firefighters’ charity.
