A SPALDING primary school pupil has become the first young person to be presented with a new award.

Luke Williamson, from Monkshouse Primary School, received the Rotary Star award – a new honour from the Rotary Club of South Holland to reward young people for acts of good citizenship within the local community.

He was presented with the award by Rotarian Pat Luckett, chairman of the Rotary Club of South Holland’s New Generation Committee, during school assembly.

Headteacher Sue Goodsell said: “Luke was a credit to the school and an excellent role model.”

Teachers at Monkshouse Primary School were asked to elect a pupil who they thought would be eligible for the award and it came as a complete surprise to Luke, with even mum keeping it a secret from him.

The project is open and achievable to all young children irrespective of age, talent or academic ability.
