SPALDING Rotary Club is appealing for donations of goods to its auction at The Vista in October so it can raise between £3,000 and £4,000 for Help For Heroes.

Club president Alan Porter, a former auctioneer with A P Sales, served in Cyprus during the 1950s when British soldiers faced Greek-Cypriot terrorists.

He said: “Help For Heroes is one of my favourite charities. I served in the armed forces and I know what pressure they are under.”

So far donations to the auction have come in thick and fast but the club is keen to boost the total from the 150 received so far.

Mr Porter said: “We have had one lady donate about 20 lots, including a fridge, four lovely dining chairs, a jardiniere and a very pretty dinner service.”

People with items to donate can contact Mr Porter on 07931 429562.

The auction starts at 10am on Saturday, October 22 but doors will open at 9am for viewing.

Fellow retired auctioneer John Allen will join Alan on the day to put the lots under the hammer.
