Lorry blaze stuns Holbeach St Marks

UPDATE FRIDAY JANUARY 2 9.30AM: A lorry fire near houses and a school in Holbeach St Marks on Monday is being treated as arson, police have confirmed today.

The fire happened in St Marks Road, near Holbeach St Marks Primary School, at about 5.15pm when a seven and a half tonne curtain-side lorry was ablaze close to a set of bungalows.

TUESDAY DECEMBER 30 3.20PM: An investigation has begun after a lorry caught fire near houses in Holbeach St Marks on Monday afternoon.

Firefighters took almost two hours to fight the blaze which broke out at about 5.15pm in St Marks Road, opposite Holbeach St Marks Primary School.

Eye-witnesses living nearby said the seven and a half tonne curtain-side lorry was parked close to electricity and telephone lines when the blaze started.

Loud explosions were reportedly heard due to the tyres bursting as a result of the fire.

A Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “There is currently no information available in regards to this incident due to an ongoing investigation.

“In terms of bringing the fire under control, the crews were alerted at 17:15pm, they were dampening down just before 6.35pm and they had completed work at the site of the incident just after 7.05pm.
