MOTORISTS attempting to get into Spalding yesterday morning faced lengthy tailbacks.

Police had to direct the growing lines of traffic at about 8am after temporary lights set up outside St Paul’s Church on Holbeach Road failed in both directions.

The lights were stuck on red as the rush hour began.

Traffic snaked back from Low Fulney past Mcdonald’s on the A151 and towards Market Deeping on the A16.

Maintenance works carried out by Anglian Water have been taking place all week.

Contractors were notified of the problem just after police arrived at the scene.
