Tributes have been paid to one of Long Sutton’s much-loved legends, Pat Pitkin, who has died within a year of retiring from her Market Place shop.

Pat’s Flowers played a key role in the town’s life and at its heart for 32 years was the hardworking lady who didn’t call it a day until after her 74th birthday.

Last June, in an interview with the Spalding Guardian, Pat said she and son Lloyd had worked seven days a week in the shop and looked forward to all the holidays they never found time to have.

She said then: “We are going to do four or five cruises a year and enjoy ourselves.”

Pat told us she had enjoyed every moment of being in business and had some lovely customers.

Sadly, Pat passed away on Sunday, February 5. Her funeral service takes place at 11.30am on Friday, March 3, at St Mary’s Church, Tydd St Mary.

Pat was so well-respected by the people in the town and by everyone in the local businesses.

Graham Smith, from Long Sutton family-run business Pledgers, said: “Pat was so well respected by the people in the town and by everyone in the local businesses.

“She was in business here for many years. She was a friendly, lovely lady – hardworking and a very good mother to Lloyd.”

Businessman Jack Tyrrell, who leads Entertainments and Events in Long Sutton, said Pat had given her time to organise the wrapping of free Christmas presents given to children visiting the Santa grotto.

He said: “She was a lovely person.”

• Long Sutton’s PJ Cat Rescue founder, Janet Boujaama, has also died aged 74.

A charity volunteer told us: “She was a marvellous, caring person who spent more than a dozen years raising money for animals and caring for them.”
