The grandsons of Mr John Watts Clifton, of Poplar House, Long Sutton, were serving King and Country in 1915.
The family included nine sons, and it was the four eldest who had joined up. Another son had proposed joining, but had not succeeded in passing his medical.
The grandsons were Driver Walter Greenwood, Army Service Corps; Pte Fred Mastin Greenwood, 9th Battalion North Staffordshire Regiment Pioneers; Frank Greenwood, aboard HMS Devonshire; and Pte Harry Watts Greenwood, of the Canadian Contingent.
The last grandson, Harry, had been wounded in both arms, but the paper reported that the latest news of the soldier was that he had been sent to recover at a convalescence home.
